Norman Information

Norman is the largest city in Cleveland County and located in the state of Oklahoma. It is situated approximately 20 miles south of downtown Oklahoma City, and is actually the third largest city in the state.

Norman is well known as being the home of the University of Oklahoma, which houses over 30,000 full time students. The university is a center for technology, culture and scientific research. Within it, lies the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. The museum houses art from masters: Vincent van Gogh, Mary Cassatt Gauguin, Renoir, and Camille Pissarro, amongst others.

While the western side of town has seen the most development in recent years, expansion in Norman is also occurring closer to the campus, where there are still infill developments underway. This is making Norman a more centralized hub. The central and eastern areas remain older, including the areas around the university campus and downtown – though, they retain their historic appearance

Norman is considered to be the nation's hub for the study of severe weather. It is the home of the National Storm Prediction Center, National Severe Storms Laboratory, the National Weather Center .
